I am a 26” barrel guy. I think that if it was my gun I’d sent it to Briley have the tube chopped and a set of tubes made.

A friend had an 11-48 that shot slugs with phenomenal accuracy. In qualifying for Aberdeen Proving Grounds he shot 3 rounds at 50 yards touching. He killed a running deer at 110 yards. Then the gun got stolen.

I get it, but I also know that effectively ruins the value of the gun from an "originality" standpoint. I tend to leave the old guns as-is.

I used to shoot 26" exclusively. I have a LH 870 Wingmaster (true Wingmaster with the fleur-de-lis, checkering, etc.) 20-gauge with a 26" bbl and a fixed IC choke that I shot as a kid. It's a little short, but I may go back to shooting it again...only 2-3/4" shells. My first 12 was a BPS with a 26" barrel.

When I swapped to an O/U, I bought 28" barrels to get the "right" sight plane, and it has done well.
