Have to replace some facia on my sister's house. How do I remove this type of drip edge without damaging it. There are folded shingles nailed to the facia then the edge is put on. Weird to me.

Have not ever seen that done before. Weird...They should have put on edge flashing or just had the shingles over hang the edge by about 1/2" to 3/4".

I think i'd install flashing on the edge. I've never seen it installed that way either.

Flashing goes at the top you can just tuck it under the siding or whatever roof seal it to the plaster wall.
You need a drip edge under the shingles you can carefully do it. Use a flat bar.

It's supposed to wrap around and go up the side.

Can you still get shingles in that style and color?
If so, tear them off and replace them with new ridge caps.

27.3 inches of rain per year in Napa.
Not much below us average.
They really wrap gables like that?

Whoever put cap on the rake most likely caused your facia to rot by trapping moisture. Or they didn't want to replace the rot and covered it with capping. The proper fix is remove it all (capping) and put 2x2 grip edge BUT if you do that the roof wont have the right overhang 1/2 inch over the flashing so damned if you do damned if you don't. flat pry bar it off carefully and you should be able to use it again to match... AB's pic is wrong the drip roof flashing should go under the underlayment then the 2x2 rake flashing on top of the underlayment and drip edge.. Not a pro but have done many roofs
