Yes, definitely northerns in the basin last weekend. In addition to the physical signs (accurate or not) behavior tells the tale. Local birds act differently than fresh migrators, and these were the latter for certain.

My son and I hunted potholes this morning. Foggy until 10 or so. We shot four ducks, two mallard hens. Not fabulous, but not awful either.

Found some mallards on the wetside today. My hunting buddies that left early took another 6 mallards and that's including beating the sky pretty bad today:confused: Beings that it's 2° F. in Anchorage right now, I can see why the ducks have decided to start moving south.

Almost 9 month old Lola got to retrieve the most ducks she's ever gotten so far! 20211121_175747.jpg

5 more mallards on the wetside today and 2 teal. All football mallards and "softball" teal.

    Any eastside reports?

My son and I were out towards Odessa goose hunting. Sloooow.. only one group of geese came in all day. Strange.

We heard from a couple other groups with basically the same results.

I've only been out a few times lately because of my health isssues, but from what I've seen, the areas I hunt in the Yakima Valley have an incredible lack of birds for this time of year. I went out to walk around yesterday at first light for an hour, and I only saw 6 ducks total. Usually this time of year is pretty good hunting. Not good.

Spokane newspaper (Spokesman Review) says today in the Outdoors section that new ducks are starting to trickle into Eastern WA.

Didn’t see much yesterday and didn’t hear others shooting. Most small water was iced over.
