I've been hacking away on walnut for about 50 years. Started out with partially shaped blanks for the first few stocks, then started making them from plain square blanks.

Love the gun cabinet; I want to build one myself. Don't see them much anymore, people just gotta have fancy safes nowadays.
Ya I like it , I keep alot of my special little keepsakes in it , it's the one place I've got the wife wont touch or rearrange!
Built one for my dad a couple years later , dad had it in the will for my son to get it , hopefully it keeps getting passed down .
I'm buying a safe at some point soon though.
Just changed insurance company and I'm covered on theft to 4 k ,in a fire or tornado 100 % . 4 k don't buy much anymore and a few just couldn't be replaced.
The additional rider was going to run 300 a year . Decided the ones I don't want to replace more for sentimental reasons would be better served in there most of the time.

What kind of lathe are you using.

I still have some of my own call making supplies .

if your interested in making some duck and goose calls

Do you trap too
Right now I have a small Delta lathe - bench top style. I'm eventually going to get one of the larger lathes - just trying to decide how much I want to spend on one.

I haven't made any duck or goose calls yet - that might be fun to try.

I don't trap any more - any trapping I would do would require a fair amount of travel just to get to a spot worthwhile to do so.

My students bought a small Jet machine lathe for call making in Poky.
When I was at South Cache Jr H I fixed 4 old military machine lathes and a cnc lath, students turned hundreds of calls.
We had lots of help from Charlie Hess, Tim grounds Knight and Hale,
Lew's out of Minnesota and Wade Carpenter got us on the right track.

I put together 30 Martin boxes, I really would like th get them out some year.

I'm blown away at the skills y'all have shown. I decided to get into woodworking so I could help my friends upgrade their rides like they do on TV.
