How is your AP goose numbers looking? We are way low down here on the Eastern Shore from where we should be this time of year. Just hoping they haven't made it down yet?
Lots of geese in the East Central zone in NY for the past three weeks to a month anyway they will b here until the lakes ice up and the fields are covered with snow too deep to feed through. I'm told they are AP geese and that is why the limit is 1 and the season is shorter, its over now. If they they travel over the next county to the south of me they are in deep ***t its 5 there and a long season.
I’m surrounded by geese this morning but we are in between splits for geese in the Hudson Valley to protect the migrators. No ducks but geese everywhere and can’t even take the in season one bird limit!
Langford What is the consensus down there that there are just less AP geese or that they just aren't coming that far south anymore? We never had the numbers of geese like we have now when I was a kid , granted that was a long time ago.
I can’t speak for Langford but geese are not where they should be per the calendar or at least when this thread was started. I am heading to the shore on Sunday for pit and decoy prep and am hopeful for a marked increase from the middle split duck season when not many geese were around. I am also hoping you guys are seeing lots of young geese in the mix this year? I think that could be our ticket to longer seasons and higher limits going forward for all of us in the AP. At the very least keep us distanced from a moratorium.
Mike I've never been to the shore but I can tell you based on what I see they are short stopping eating corn etc. and staying put until the snow pushes them out. Some of the graphs I see of the AP geese travel routes still go over 5 bird areas in Ny .
