It’s been a lucky past couple of weeks.
Banded 08/08/14 Too young to fly, La Grande Oregon
Serious question. Is 1 out 10 Mallards in California banded ? I'm 0 for the last 398 greenheads here. That doesn't even count the " others" I've shot. So 0 for 1421. Haven't killed one for 6 years. Lucky sumbitches.
GK1 I hear ya! Im in west Kentucky and average about one per 100 killed but CA is off the charts. Also amazed at the number of banded gadwall out there
GK1 and killducks, we have a lot of banding projects in the Flyway, especially on the various state wildlife areas and NWR’s. The California Waterfowl Association bands a bunch of birds as well. We shoot a majority of local birds (mallards especially) on and around those banding projects.
Lots of gadwall get banded in a couple of areas and they migrate into a couple of areas once the weather pushes them.
In the long run it’s a lot of luck and being in the right place at the right time.
