    Hey all,

I was lucky enough to get a banded drake eider on my first sea duck hunt up in Maine. After uploading the band # the info I received was, the drake was banded in 2005 and hatched prior to 2004. I was wondering how rare is it for an eider drake to live that long after being banded.

Congrats on your banded bird. 16 years is long but not unheard of.

I killed a Banded Drake Eider in Maine, that was 5 years past its banding date. We almost lost the bird to a marauding seal. The dog got there first. We hadn't seen the seal when the dog got sent. Happy to get the Dog and the Bird back

Also, I reached out to the state of Maine Bird Banding Lab Staff, and I was informed I have harvested the 82nd oldest eider in Maine’s 100year old database. The record was set last year, 27 year old female

Did they happen to tell you how big that data base was? (i.e. how many other eiders have been reported in total?)

I would think that these ducks would not have nearly the hunting pressure that puddle ducks do, and would generally have a long lifespan due to such?

Very cool bird, and great post!:tu
