Only 2 bands in 56 years one a pigeon and one bull sprig. I know both were mine because I hunting alone. Have not killed a banded duck in 35 years. Only 2 other bands killed while I was in the group, one honker and one mallard Susie. My father hunted every day years ago and only left us 2 bands and ducks were thick then. NJ219bands has a great record in 55 years he has averaged on ducks 132.7 ducks per year and 4.49 bands per year. I am just not lucky I guess and I have hunted Canada, TN, MO, AR LA and TX over the years. I have won several guns at DU banquet over the years, but never been drawn for a 60 day blind at Reelfoot. I get invited to a private blind where they tell you first thing that any bands belong to the blind but they have never killed a banded bird while I was there. They also say they have never been skunked except on a trip or two when I was along. Go figure.

I’ve shot one banded mourning dove. I shot it in Niland, CA and it was banded in Niland a month earlier. He logged a ton of miles! I hope I am as lucky as some of you guys in my duck hunting career, I turn 19 soon and can’t wait for what the coming years bring! Last season the blind next to me shot a banded duck as I walked out to get more shells, makes me wonder how many times I’ve missed banded ducks or watched them flying out of range.

Around Humboldt Bay the only birds that seem to be banded are the Brant. I don’t shoot too many of those so this is my stash. The nice thing about Brant is that they band them with stainless steel. BD5841E7-4CB6-4D18-AABF-8B8A69A2FEAF.jpeg

Some of the folks on this thread are straight up band killers, I’m impressed! Curious if anyone has seen the leg band on the bird before they shot?
