I really question how people have so many problems with this. I’ve only had it happen a handful of times over the years and everytime it was guys doing it to me on purpose for a good laugh. Never once had it happen just on its own.

Friend of mines SBE 2 had it happen to him no less than 6 times last week. He finally started tapping the bolt forward right before he would shoot. He wasn’t too very happy and I loved reminding him that a Beretta doesn’t have these issues.

I do not take care of my gun and have more rounds through it than most. No clue why this would happen. I don’t have an aftermarket spring either

No idea but it’s a very well known issue.
Everytime I’ve heard it is people screwing with other people or an accidental bumping of the charging handle when coming up to shoot(more prevalent with the Briley extended charging handles). I will day this, I love Beretta’s but I had way more FTF with them than my Benelli.

I had one benelli before. A vinci. It failed 4/4 flicks into a killer spring snow goose shoot. The guide ran me back to get my A400 and 8 boxes later in a 130 bird shoot that gun performed flawlessly as it has for the last 7 years.

I have never suffered "the click" without bumping the bolt handle against something or catching it on something to impede the forward movement of the bolt or pull it back out of battery.

I always tried to keep my SBE greased where the bolt strikes the "face" of the chamber. The tilted ramps that the bolt hits which causes it to rotate. Keep some oil on the parts inside the bolt that rotates and keep the rail slot that guides the bolt back and forth well oiled .

As others have stated, the "Benelli Click" is due to the bolt not seating all the way forward... Generally this is due to not letting the bolt slam home... It can be due to "fiddling with the gun" or knocking or catching the bolt out of battery (i.e. hanging up on a hanging bag or such while mounting the gun).

It can also be due to:
  • Dirty chamber and shells not seating properly.
  • Plain dirty gun, and the action simply being impaired enough not to seat the bolt.
  • Bad recoil spring.

My impression is that it takes a lot more dirt and grim to make a Benelli fail than a Beretta, and I currently shoot a Beretta. My impression is that a Benelli is more reliable and easier to clean, and more reliable than any gas-operated gun I have owned or fired... Inertia guns recoil more, and I simply shoot a Benelli poorly...

When someone makes the perfect gun, this particular forum will be considerably less popular.

Setting the gun down too hard in a blind or pit can make it happen on a weak springed gun. It is one issue in a very reliable system. If you don't pay attention to it and snag the bolt or drop it fairly hard straight down on the recoil pad, the weight of the bolt which is designed to make the system work, will work against it .

Mine will be on its 21st season this year. Still going strong!

I 100% disagree with that. My A400 is beyond reliable. It’s currently dirty as all get out as duck hunting has been in full swing for 3 weeks here. Before season I had 200 light rounds through it from clays and teal. It flat out shoots. When I actually clean it? An air compressor and a few minutes and she’s back at it it again. Beyond simple.

You were in the Corps and you don't keep your weapon clean? :scratch I don't understand why ANYONE (not just you bucky) wouldn't keep a gun clean after each use. My gun(s) especially my Sporting Clays gun are cleaned & lubed after EACH use!
