Always have ran old Johnsons, Chryslers and the like from the 60's and 70's.
What brand would you guys recommend in a new 4 stroke outboard in a 5 or 6 horse?
    Suzuki, Honda, Merc, other?
A good warranty would be a great bonus.

That was my initial #1 option but I have no experience with anything made in the last 40 years to draw from. Thanks for the input!

Some may say they are hard to start in Winter. This is what a friend w/a 10 hp told about his, so take that for what it's worth though I agree w/the Honda. As great as they are w/4 stroke-cycle motorcycles IMO it would be hard to beat them, Now that said I would also look at the Yamaha's, too!

I know a few guys that have went with Suzuki in the last few years and they all love them. Seen to be a tad less expensive than the rest too, it at least that's what they say as I haven't priced them.
Interested to hear the feedback though as I need to pick up a little 4-6hp one of these days. Anyone know if anyone makes a twin cylinder in the small stuff any more? Those old 2 cylinder small motors were aweful smooth.

Yamaha...nothing else comes close. Had Honda, Merc, & Nissan 4 strokes...and Yamaha. From now on for me it’s Yamaha for any boat in any HP.

    No right answer.
They all have good years and bad.
I've had great luck w. Suzuki and Tohatsu.
Had a great Yamaha 15 as well.
I'd buy one of them or a Honda tomorrow.
Get the best deal w. the best warranty with the closest dealer you can.

Suzuki definitely a little less pricey and lower weight, if that's a concern.

I had a 90 Honda on my Whaler 20 years ago. It was a very solid motor. I never had an ounce of trouble with it. Motor was so quiet that sometimes I couldn't hear it running. If I remember correctly, at the time it was substantially heavier than most other brands that were the same size. Not sure about the newer motors.

Also , I don't think you can go wrong with Yamaha.
