I’d also look for the closest dealer. Driven hard, any mud motor will need annual checkup.

Bought a backwater package early last fall. 1648 Alweld MV with 35hp long tail and trailer. Had them weld pods on the back and went with thier custom spud bar setup. Out the door was somewhere near $13.500. really like the set up. 2 large guys,100lb dog, gear and more decoys than I like to pick up handles it no problem.

    Go with Backwater!

Will do everything you need. Simple, bulletproof design. And low maintenance. Not terribly expensive.

What kind of speeds are you seeing with that setup and load?

Two things to keep in mind: A longtail will be less expensive. A longtail will NOT make a good fishing motor. (neither will a surface-drive, but it will be better than a LT)
As far as brands, both Mudbuddy and Backwater make good units and are reasonably priced. You can buy turn-key rigs from either of them.

I put a trolling motor on the back of a scanoe. That and a push pole was the bomb when I was solo hunting.

Due to recent lumber / plywood price increases that floor would now cost you $3000. :l
