That's exactly what I was afraid of. You probably get a lot of cripples and shoot big shot too. Just a hunch.
We killed a lot of divers when I was I was growing up on the local coal mine strip pits, as my dad was a coal miner, which gave us some great places to hunt. The vast majority of those birds were ringnecks and we usually had no problem decoying them however we chose to setup that day. I've learned over the years it's a whole lot different hunting the other species of divers on the public lakes that I frequent now.Pretty sure if you try it a few times you will like the results. It works great for mallards and geese too. When the birds get shy on the big water I hunt it's the only way I will set up. I do the same thing layout hunting a mile off shore for divers and Scoters. Something about the open water in front of them does the trick.
