Years ago I used to shoot the ones with the crimped ends. They reach out there pretty good. I don't know if you can ever kill anything with those ones with the plastic capsules on the front (CCI). Probably get some lead buildup in your barrel if you shoot a lot of them.
You would more likely get plastic build up, Those lead pellets are probably harder than the typical lead bullet in a .22lr. I shot both kinds. The crimped end ammo worked better. Maybe it's due the the added pressure it would take to open the crimp, who knows. I used the plastic tip shells to kill rats that tripped my smaller live traps so they wouldn't be totally wasted.
More success this evening just before sunset! The .22 Long Rifle No. 12 lead shot at 12' from a 10/22 worked fine! Just glad baiting is still legal!
When I was a kid I raised hog to make money. We had a old barn th a bad a corn crib in it and I would climb on top of it and shoot rats with a old 22. You know I don't think I ever saw a hog eat a rat but kill a snake and give it to them and the fight for it was on
