I shot this bird a few months ago and got ridiculed on a Facebook group for asking if it was a hybrid... apparently that's a bad word.
Anyway I was just thinking about this bird again tonight as it was a awesome field hunt in freshly combined corn. She sailed and buried herself in the corn leaves and stubble. My dog tracked her down and pinned her to the ground when she tried getting back up. Anybody see or shoot mallards with all black bills like this?

Get a LeMasters waterfowl i.d. book. Match bill.
3 years ago I shot a greenhead mallard with what turned out to be a pintail bill. Add green speculum...and indeed a mallard pintail cross.

    Hangs on my wall.

I'm guessing just a Suzy with a little more black on her bill than normal.

That's what I thought right away. Then I asked for thoughts on a Facebook group, and got ridiculed for it.
That could be. It wasn't just a little more though, this thing was all black. Not a spec of orange.

Do not quote me on this but for some reason I think I have seen where the hen mallards in New Zealand have all black hills regularly. It may not be New Zealand but there is some place.

Also, like with I think a lot of the blond mallards people are shooting there are just tons of domestic duck genes floating around these days and your duck may have some portion of those genes.
