Roll Top period. Learn how to use it, make it in two pieces. I built it with the wheels permanently fixed and the rail rolls on the wheels. It also rolled both ways. As far as seeing it's usually open half way until you get birds then just roll it closed. There's other tricks you'll learn. Make it 8-10" above the blind pile up rice straw from the check up to just under the lid so you can just see out. It's a great wind blocker to.
Make your own Gibson type save a ton of $$$ if your going that way.

Gibsons are a tool for the hole.. but as was mentioned before, you are almost always going to be above the check profile in some way... so mask that. we made grass stakes.. small panels...we would also build some stuff up 30 40 yards in each direction... so that it was just kind of the way the check was... Especially as the checks get walked down, beaten down, eaten down... you have to. and yes. with minimal tools and skills you can make your own. dont go pvc though. too much flex and they break from dogs and dummies stepping on them.

What are blind covers? They don’t have them at the refuges I hunt. Doesn't seem to matter much there. Maybe I’m crazy.

I absolutely hate hunting a blind with covers that I have to flip to shoot. They all suck. My covers aka flip so I can take the lids off or walk down the side of the tank but I use bundles to shoot through. You are almost always shooting at flaring birds with a flip cover. Did I say they suck to shoot out of. Yes I hate them.

Hog or cow panel configured to your situation is a great base to start with and can be custom cut to fit your needs.

Another fan of building your own, stockpiling large amounts of cut cover to refill around blind including clumps zip tied to stakes and down check paths.
There is a tendency for folks to let blind cover, decoys, and attention to policing things like empty shells to deteriorate as the season progresses.
Ducks are more aware of shortcomings at the end of the season

The farmer I lease from always leaves a 6-7 wide strip so that I can drive down to fix up the blind, put out decoys and walk down easily to the blind. Tells me he has to disk in the spring anyway so it’s not a big deal. Always remember to take care of the landowner at Xmas etc, and don’t forget to stay in contact year round . Keep a good relationship going, pays off big time.

1) do not walk on check. I know it's a bitch, but don't allow.
2) build similar panels that look like your blind profile and place them on your check @ 30, 90 yards away. If you can place them on check's across and behind you.
3) invest in good covers and constantly drag out fresh clippings to help the hide.
