Ok, not that it matters...but the whole field is a check. Each rice check is separated by a levee.

Don't walk on the check means don't walk out in the water. Check decoys would be the ones out there floating.

Blinds are on levees, not checks (unless they're islands).

Screw that it's 350 yards down the check to the blind. Even tho they don't disk up to the check it's a bitch to walk in the water. I think our field is just super muddy. There's places the ATV barley makes to through. We walk the check till 50 yards away then drop into the water. Don't think I've seen birds flaring from a walked on check????

Semantics, my farmer calls them checks, he’s calls the field “the field” they have levees in the delta. He says he will be pulling the “checks” when he rebuilds them each year.
I know what you are saying but guys refer to them as checks and levees.
When shooting the rice I walk out to the blind thru the water, dog walks thru the water until I tell it to kennel in its hide. Hate beaten down cover. Almost every year he leaves the cover up, only twice since I’ve had the field does he mow, says he will burn the “checks“ in the spring.

Not all levees are created equally. Walking down one in my area would be disastrous & entertaining to watch. One wrong step & your going in well over your head, another you could sink to your sack in mud. Best to stay on the paths the equipment leaves.

We get to chose to mow or not we mow 99% of the time. Well the manager mows not us. Haha. There's 4 checks ( leeves) in our 100 acres mow them all.

Our are pretty wide and solid farmer doest care if we walk them I asked of course. He re shapes them every yr. First 5/6 walks down it is fun until a path is formed.

I'm too old, no probably lazy, I walk down the check to my blind, my check is cut. An uncut check, I would walk in the water, our club used to be like that, but they cut the checks every year lately. I will straw up the check trail near the blind to cover up the foot and dog activity, but don't think the trail flares birds if at all.
I do use Gibsons, I like them. I have entertained the thought of rollers, but think they would make the blind uncomfortable from my head having to be too low...but I guess I'm getting too old.
