Hello my New Mexican brethren. Went by there today while I’m out at WSMR. When do the cranes usually arrive? Neat place.

    Afternoon stevena198301,

They should be building up each day. Last week of October and first week of November should be close to peak time.

Several came back with me from Canada to get a head start but they did not like the ride in the cooler.

Check the Bosque Del Apache web site for the date of the Crane Festival.

Seen a flock over Albuquerque about an hour ago. First ones I’ve seen.

Went again this morning, and didn’t see any. I fly out before the Festival. Ready to get home, but do wish I was here to see it. Saw about 100 Merriams, a coyote, two mule deer, and some mallards and teal on my drive through this am. Also saw some black shore birds that looked kinda like Ibis’. Not sure if they were or not though. Bigger bird with a hooked beak.

Apologies for the terrible pics. My phone case had dust over the lens cover. At least 20 turkey were roosted on that footbridge when I made the bend. They walked down the handrail and hopped down.

That place is flat eat up with turkeys. Last time I goose hunted out that way, I drew the field near their roost. I had 20 or 30 turkeys walking around in the decoys. There was probably close to 150 on that roost. Incredible. I like that place a whole lot.

Went out to Fort Craig today, and on the way out, saw a flock of about 30 cranes flying over.
