Brookies are such pretty fish...I've caught them as a youngster in creeks in Appalachian Mountains,
rivers and lakes in Maine and high elevation beaver ponds in Utah.
In Alaska, char (Dolly Varden and Arctic) look like big brookies....

We have lots of them here in Idaho, most of the time they are small and overpopulated in a many areas. Between me and my two boys we caught 275 ten inch rookies on dry flies in three days in one lake, many were consumed. The only thing that prevented us from catching one was we already had one on. There were a few rainbows in the same lake, but all were stunted. We had packed into a lake 6 miles in a trailess area in central Idaho. When we arrived at the small lake it looked like it was boiling.

This little brook trout was beautiful and was caught in the Teton River near Driggs, Idaho. We've caught only one bull trout and it was only 14 inches long in the middle fork of the salmon river. We were probably a little early this year, but have a plan to return again next summer and try it again. I don't know what effect chinooks might have on bull trout, but there were lots of chinook spawning last summer when we were there.

Brook trout are always willing to take a dry fly.

Sorry I'm seeing that and a bunch of others frying in a skillet. (I do let most go)

Fishing those little brooks is the best. I fly fish mostly but I do love to fish those small streams with garden hackle.

Trout really are beautiful fish. For that reason I guess I wouldn't mind fishing for them, just to see that beauty in hand. Other than that I have no desire to fish for them. No offense to the guys that do.

A 10+ lb steelie or brown or a 20+ lb laker might change your viewpoint on trout. Some of the hardest fighting fresh water fish. Drag screamers.

Brookies are cool fish. If you like to fish for them lake nipigon is a bucket list trip. Trophy brookies, lakers, pike and walleyes. Probably the most beautiful lake I’ve been too.
