Did he already get drawn for this year for cow elk at Grizzly, or are you hoping he gets drawn for next year?
He hasn't drawn but with max points it's pretty much guaranteed. Only 1 max point applicant last year for 3 tags so 2 went to people with less than max points. Sure, it's possible that a bunch of other max point people will jump into it but not likely IMO.

Forget the page # but its in the big game handbook, and yes, the big game booklet is merely a snapshot of tags available to max pp holders and total applicants.

Antlerless Grizzly Is.
433- 2 tags avail- 3 max pp applied
358- 4 tags avail- 0 max pp applied
360- 4 tags avail- 0 max pp applied
363- 4 tags avail- 1 max pp applied

If this holds true, approx 11max pp holders could draw those tags just by applying as not many max holders want a cow, me included.
I've used the guide like a barometer for not just those hunts but for premium deer tags as well, and its panned out correctly for several years now for me at least, maybe not everybody.
As the pp creeps its merely important to just keep building points, or applying, and eventually you can "pick" whats right for your choice, hence my comment.
I have max pp and can "almost" guarantee myself a GI cow tag for P1-4, I just opt for the bull every time,,,,,and fail as 350 max holders are vying for the 2 bulls allowed for max holders.
Its a game, I hate it, but time passes and the max pp pool get smaller, very very slowly, but it does get smaller.
Good lord thats a long winded response, my apologies, but copy/paste aint my friend today for some reason.
That's what I do too. But would your thought process ever change? With odds of 1-200 for a bull at age 82 when you've already killed 5 bulls in your life would you? Some would, some wouldn't. He did.

With the system as it is now, you betcha I'd kill a cow at 82.
With the CA system is all based on crazy odds for a bull tule.
I'm 54, so I've got "time" in essence,,,,,,hopefully.
Not knocking him at 82 by any stretch, but a GI cow is a fairly easy harvest, more so that they gut, transport, and skin your game. A no brainier for an 82yo.

Steve they pick it up in the field and move it over to the hoist when they are done doing their biologist stuff. The gutting is not part of it for any one I know that's killed there. Never seen or heard of one skinned either. That would have made my life easier last year LOL

Thanks Gene, good to know.
Myself, I need to do it all, weird that way I suppose.
Blood head to toe for this glutton for punishment fella.
Elk odds in CA are wild.
Put in for the Whitney bull last year as I "had" good access to stock. That particular hunt can be vertical, so stock may be necessary.
Don't have access anymore, so some lucky fella will pull it, just need the means to get it out.
Oh yeah, my friends list shortens quickly when talk of 10k' Bulls enter the convo.

I found out I drew a Vernon rifle tag in Utah, so I was ecstatic. Then I found out I was going to miss opening day of duck season because of it and I was still pretty stoked. I swung for the fence in California and did the same for my junior.

Good job, sounds like fun, and you won't have to deal with 90* opening day temps.
Ducks ain't going anywhere, they'll be waiting for ya.

My dad just turned 82 also,he is darn good health so he still put's in for NE bull elk,he can handle that hunt for few more years if draws it.after than will probably put for cow tags heck he has already probably killed a dozen or so bulls from out of state hunting,Like to see him get a bull in CA,all his elk have been on public land no guides when we go out of state..
