First of all, I can't imagine that the survey has a high risk being in the middle of a flipping barely inhabited peninsula/prairie. Second, I cant believe they can't find a couple of vaccines.

    What a load of bullocks.

The very least, weather conditions can be monitor on Ugava when AP's arrive this month. If ice and snow cover normal and lack of late season snow storms much better chance of an potential plus or minus average nesting year not seen for a number of years. If Mother nature offers AP's good weather I'll take it even for the lack of nesting surveys to study the # of nests and clutch sizes to start a rebound with hope all survey crews will be able to return to normal maybe end of the year.

Close the season on Canada’s. Let’s see people’s heads explode...

On a serious note- Maybe the surveys have never been important?

I wish they would shut it down. I know it will effect people’s pockets. But I rather fix the problem now and deal with it . Then have 1 goose for a decade. I saw this coming years ago. When the numbers were not as high as usual in roost ponds. I am still younger than most on here and not seen as much in my life . But I can say my generation will see a moratorium on geese and striped bass at the same time .

I do agree with Scotty , the surveys may not be needed . It’s a guessing game from the very beginning. “How many ducks are in this box, when we fly over.” If you put the box over a group of ducks, that’s a thousand ducks. Truthfully it’s all a guessing game. It’s never going to be exact numbers.

What does numbers on roost ponds have to do with anything. Migrations change, our birds have been short stopping in NY and PA more and more every year. What shows up to MD isn’t necessarily indicative of the total population of the Flyway.

I feel the surveys just give an idea of how successful the nesting season has been. It has been done for decades, and I am sure the biologists have a good idea what the success will be based on their experience and this springs weather.
