Cattail Planting

    Phragmites have ruined more marsh areas and small pond around here than anything else. I cringe when I think of it but kudzu keeps inching closer.

    Owendog - I would encourage you to call your local DNR biologist, WWA biologist or DU biologist. They have tons of experience along these lines and could give you some advice, including how to avoid a wetland infraction...

    Emergents will come back pretty fast unless you have lots of carp that may be inhibitiing re-growth. If you have carp it doesn't matter what you plant. If you can't get cattails to grow...nothing will....

    Thanks you for some sound advice. I will take it. Need to find an expert for sure.

    The carp are a huge problem. The DNR provided material for carp gates about 12 years ago, and labor was provided by the clubs. They lasted 6 months until they were vandalized. Amazing that people would do something so stupid.
