Who is going?
....is that event taking place in Chili? Youngest son lives right there in Chili and middle Son lives in Pekin. Maybe get the oldest Son to drive me up there.
I would also be interested in the info. I don't understand why more events don't show up on the DU website.
its oct. 5th, not sure of the times, both of my buddies are heading it up. Unfortunally I'm not going, too expensive, and I never see DU do anything around here in central illinois with the money raised. I could get more info for ya'll if ya want.
Here is just a small list of projects DU has done in Central IL..Weiss Lake..Wightman Lake..Sangamon River Delta...Cameron Refuge..Duck Ranch...Illinois River Basin project....the list goes on and on
Click on this link to look at the projects around Central IL
And they did exactly what with Whitman Lake or the area around Sparland? Wait, diked it off, planted it one year, then handed it to the state for it to not be utilized and make some nice scenary of prairie grass lol
DU did what they always do...buy the property with grants..gifts... donations etc. improve it and turn it over to the state to manage. They're not in the management of property. I agree with you, but the problem we have is with the State of Illinois not holding up to their end of the bargain, not DU. Sorry to hijack this thread.
Weiss Lake no hunting
Wightman Lake no hunting
Cameron Lake no hunting
Il River Basin 1/2 and 1/2
DU paid $774.000 for the Chillicothe Bottoms last year.
You couldn't kill a duck there if you baited it.
They went in and put a berm up.
They know the state can't take care of them,so why do they keep giving them the property?
Not to be argumentative, but whom would you suggest? I for one wish DU went back ot a "Singleness of Purpose" when all funds were spent in Canada.
However, due to pressure by members, they now spend monies inside the states. It's kinda a "Catch 22" scenario, they are damned if they do & damned if they don't. Fact is, they can't make everybody happy, & the good lord knows, we will bitch & complain about anything & everything.
I don't know the answer either.
I agree it is a catch 22.
In other states what they are doing may work, but not in Illinois.
They turn into rest areas.
Here we don't need any more of them.
