With Satellite cameras capable of reading a license plate, it is unfathomable that technical information is their goal.

What the have learned is:
How will the American administration react to the intrusion of a balloon?

How long to detect?
How long to form a response plan?
How long to implement a response?
What information will they make public?
What sort of internal debate?
How will America respond to accusations/threats from China?

Why?

If you were planning an aggressive takeover of Taiwan, it might be comforting to know that the Biden administration takes weeks to move on a balloon.

Taiwan seizure can be accomplished in hours or days.

I predict the "balloon" succeeded in gathering the information China wanted.

And you would be right along with the rest of us so called conspiracy theorists who seem to have an unerving record of being right. So much for the slippery slope crowd that didn't see this as concerning. Wonder if broccoli brains handlers got a call from CCP heads up to let the balloon complete its mission before taking it down? I had to laugh at the phrase "shocking report". In what context? That the balloon was doing what those of us blessed with common sense thought it was or that this administration tried to cover up and explain away it's ineptitude? I believe Trump had discontinued The Freedom of the Skies agreement. The agreement where countries are allowed to fly over other countries for military but peaceful information gathering. So this, especially since the balloon was under control of the Chinese, bumps this into a direct affront to our national sovereignty.

I’ll research it later so until I do this is IMO.

I didn’t realize that a president could unilaterally punt an international treaty. (?)
