I remember the wardens asking us to pile them at the road or parking lot. We couldn’t “just leave them”, we had to gather them.

We shoot them all year long down here in Louisiana. I mean, all season long. Posting for a friend, I don’t have any shotguns after the boat sank during the coot shoot ‘93.

I understand private clubs reasoning for shooting them. I was more curious as to the shoots that sound like Fish & Game organized.

I can tell you around here they wouldn't go to the coyotes. Locals here love "bluepeters" as we call them. Skin em and fry em, man they're good, gizzards too.

Can you imagine CA fish and game (excuse me fish and wildlife) putting on something like this in this day?

Went to several coot shoots in my youth. But, what I remember best was a jackrabbit depredation hunt at McClellan AFB. Talk about wild! Poor buggers running in and out of hangers, crazy.

    wait... what???
Heh, those are some of the best memories I have with my grandpa. The first coot shoot with my grandpa, brother and I was a treasured memory.

Skies full of easy opportunities at times, others getting worn out trying to corral a flock of coots by myself. Step on the feet and pull the wings. Recipe sheets handed out... I recall something like "pol de eau jambalaya".
    Yeah knew it couldn't last.
