Waterfowl loads are now becoming available in my area after two years of scarcity.
The problem is it's all weird loads like Fogie's 2 3/4" - 1oz - #2's. Nothing I can actually use.

I'm fortunate to have just over 10 cases of miscellaneous steel loads that are QUITE usable, more than enough to last the rest of my hunting days at the current rate of use (about a case a season the last couple of seasons. ( And I'm getting pretty old....)
Some of them are 7-8 years old and almost all of them cost $10/box. (when I'd find some good loads on sale, back then, for $100 a flat, I'd buy two of them)

Jamestown, NC. Duckin desert.
Ammo prices are tough. I've shot almost a full box this year.
This weekend was eleven hours in the truck pulling the boat at 12 mpg. Two nights in a place to stay. Meals for two days. Gas for 40 miles in the boat. Trailer will need new tires and bearings before next season. Above average hunting - fired 3 shells. Ammo prices are not really a factor around here.
But I got to hunt with my kid in the layout boat and see several thousand bluebills ignore us - priceless :) .

As I was managing a Club I would get a little discount for ammo so , I purchased enough flats to share with members , over the years the surplus
went into my container just incase ! I also would order a pallet of clay target loads to sell at the club , most were quality premium loads that were
priced at market value . Good deals would also come along and I would take advantage like , Bornighi's for $2.80 a box ! I did take all that was offered
so another 2 1/2 pallets went into my container . I sold them also at market value to skeet / trap shooters as they were mostly 1 oz loads !
I still have enough Waterfowl loads to play with but I rather shoot my handloads !

Rogers has some fair prices on HTL and Bismuth hunting loads.

That Hevi 12 #2’s in 1.125oz for 12gauge is a good price overall just for the shot alone. ($450/250 rounds)

WOW with a little over 17.57 lbs of HTL shot , that is a fair deal for a premium load !

Found some Jimmy Whomp loads on clearance at Fleet Farm. Thanks for the lead @Dirk Van Schmaldlerson.

  • Drastic increase in raw materials and manufacturing costs.
I'm guessing manufacturing costs (and possibly availability) as it's hard for me to imagine that the basic components of a steel shotshell have gone up that much.
