Agreed. Good paint that is still sticking (after a long time) is a BIG bonus.

My posts (pictures) were from a long time ago, when I was back in Vegas (so over 15 years ago) The decoys were from my Father, and I remembered hunting over them as a kid. They were pretty much all I got from his estate (woman who lived with him kept and sold all the guns I grew up with)

I have pretty much zero artistic talent, unlike guys like Mean Gene, so I went quick and dirty. The air gun I used is not for fine work, but will throttle down to about 1" size, which was fine for me. I am a believer of 'contrast' standing out. Fine details are not 'needed' (but nice to look at when the birds aren't flying)

I don't see my gun listed at Harbor Freight anymore. This one sounds like it would do the same thing..

I know folks who have been painting half their hens as blacks for years.

Yep, and I have seen the results.

I also know my skills and art is not one of them.

I sprayed my old faded decoys with black truck bed liner. Hand painted the bills yellow or blue. It's quick. I just toss them in with my regular decoys. It did not have a positive or negative effect when compared to having just regular decoys in the water.

Notice how nobody is posting pictures of gadwall repaints?

They don’t sell many mottled duck decoys....easier to paint black duck decoys to mottled....

    Because
    1) they are hard to paint well
    2) They decoy to anything so why bother?

I've used surf scoter decoys hunting puddlers. They work.
