I'm looking for a used tailgate on www.car-part.com. With the prices of new and used trucks these days it got me to wondering what it would cost to build your own used truck from salvaged parts. Anyone ever taken on a "one piece at a time" venture like this? If time was on your side I bet this could be done as long as the DMV would allow you to title it when finished.

My solution was simple.

Took the tailgate off.

Kept me from wondering all those such things.
I'm not far from it , have to do the chevy double slam and it proving less reliable every day. Won't be long and I'll have to free up a ratchet strap.

I wonder. Used trucks are pricey. I have a 2005 Silverado with almost 250K miles on it and searched for it's equivalent replacement with under 100K miles. Most vehicles I saw were >$20K. Yikes.
To clarify; A running machine from junk yard parts is probably doable. In my state, you can get away with a lot. No emissions testing, hell, no real testing at all. You could make a running, drivable machine for a reasonable price. If you had to go full-blown parts list to create a matching vehicle, it’d be pricey.
