No substantial rain since snowmelt in early May.
Fires to the SW (many tundra fires), west (Clear/Anderson), northwest (Minto Lakes)
so looks like a smoky summer in boreal Alaska.
A record over 1 million acres burned in the month of June.

Drought has ended. August is typically a rainy month.
We have 2 summers: hot and dry, then cool and wet.
"Wet" is relative...we get 12 inches total for the entire year, so a half an inch is a lot of rain for a day.
Ironically the mosquitoes are worse during the hot/dry phase of June-July.
