Some of you may remember I posted a YouTube video in March of 2021 that shows thousands of Black Bellied Whistling Tree Ducks (BBWD) lined up along the West Napoleon canal bank near Lafreniere Park in Metairie Louisiana. My son was walking his dog yesterday and took this picture of an Eagle that had gotten a BBWD and was eating it. Apparently this Eagle saw the easy meal and took advantage of it.

All the years I hunted in LA I never had a BBWTD come close enough to shoot. They avoided flying near decoys, other ducks, blowing leaves, etc. Never knew anyone that took one legally. I’m envious of the eagle.

Shortly after I took this photo a big flock of black-bellied whistling ducks flew over and ones in the water were trading calls with the flock above and about that time a bald eagle swooped down but didn't connect. I had already put the camera down and missed out on the shot.
