That's interesting. I've never seen them make a hole in one up here. The redheads will take feild corn and pound it into cracks on power poles and fence posts though.Even the power company has never seen one that bad, and they are treated like poles everywhere. It’s neat to watch them redheads and flickers just a few feet away, but I just know that sucker is coming down sooner or later.
It’s strictly a nesting deal. No bugs in the pole.
Never knew if it was a way of storing food or if they were trying to attract bugs to the "bait " ?
