Even the power company has never seen one that bad, and they are treated like poles everywhere. It’s neat to watch them redheads and flickers just a few feet away, but I just know that sucker is coming down sooner or later.

It’s strictly a nesting deal. No bugs in the pole.
That's interesting. I've never seen them make a hole in one up here. The redheads will take feild corn and pound it into cracks on power poles and fence posts though.
Never knew if it was a way of storing food or if they were trying to attract bugs to the "bait " ?

I hadn’t here either until they put this pole in the ground across the road about 15 years ago.

We've got our yearly quail nesting behind my shed in the back yard. We live right at the city limits with the Bennet hills in the background. I took this photo from the bedroom window last spring, the hen had 15 chicks under her, all about the size of a quarter. We have a few pairs of quail running around the neighborhood, a few hummingbirds, and a house finch, but no goldfinches yet. Still waiting for the cedar waxwing migration, but they only hang out a couple days. We've got a casino coming in just a mile to the southwest, might be time to think about moving.

I'm enjoying life in the valley. Mountains one weekend and the beach the next.

The best part of my move is being 10 hours closer to my 1st grandchild.

Got in two hours this morning before the horde began to descend on the lake. Weather is supposed to stay beautiful, so it’ll be a busy weekend on the water. Bass boat is pulled, covered and parked. Pontoon is in the boathouse with a full tank of gas and a cooler full of ice.
