"And a mule?"
although it wasn’t part of Sherman’s official orders, many freed blacks got mules from the US Army.
I'm familiar. It's also a line from "Gone with the Wind."
I haven’t seen that movie in 30 years. I like Mammy and Clark Gable’s character.
I bet they were on pins and needles. And they had documentation out the wazoo, I'm sure, to back up what a train wreck he was. And then I bet there were some who still didn't want to fire him, but promote him to where he could do no damage.
Same with me before getting hired in law enforcement. They had to hire 2 blacks before they could hire anymore whites. They hired 2 blacks with lower test scores before they hired me. One did not make it thru the academy. One was fired for not checking everything on his beat, with the final straw being caught by the shift supervisor, asleep in his cruiser. Played the race card, city attorney said "change his personnel file to resigned instead of fired and give him $1000, he will go away". They did and he did. I'm so thankful for my white privilege.
If I wasn't so dim as to not understand what it is, I'd be thankful too, I suppose...........
This in Alabama?
Rumors to similar effect fly around the agencies here, but they are just rumors.......
