I don't run them, don't like looking at them. When I hunted clubs and they first hit the scene of course I got one of Eberharts goal post units and benifitted. Never liked the 3 ring circus but had to keep up with the rest of the blinds or suffer watching birds pour into the other guy's carnival. I know it make marginal hunters more successful and to me that's a good way to retard growth and produce lazy hunters. Not saying that those who use them are lazy just pointing out a trend. I'm a diver guide and we are blessed with zero competition therefore not needing any added bells & whistles and I simply don't like looking at them. Would my hunts be more successful with them? Of course, but I like a

simple traditional spread with a good hide or boat. So, who has decided not to run them and why?

150% With ya on the spinning wings .. Hate them things and I was just like you had one cus if you didn’t you weren’t shooting anything cus they worked that great when they first showed up … Took a few yrs for the smarter dux to figure them out and I am 100% sure that any idiot can set one out , not hide and shoot ducks cus I’ve seen it happen at Mendota … Maybe not nowadays but back then dux had never seen anything like it and it worked on every Duck .. far as I was concerned cus we shot limits really fast when nobody was even shooting dux … Still wish they’d outlawed them completely I hate the things for reasons listed by OP … cus like I say .. If you need one to help you kill dux , your no hunter just a shooter a wanna be … A true duck hunter .. instead of using a crutch like a spinning wing they build a good hide , set a spread , call and fool dux into gun range that’s called duck huntn …. ,
And if your like me and don’t care what others think , then by all means be that guy .. Run that Crutch so you can shoot ducks and post pics of them hollywoods … and really who cares what I think anyways … according to my Wife I am right a lot … The moral of the story here is .. You don’t need a Spinning wing decoy to shoot ducks .. if you do my advice is to become a dove hunter and leave the ducks to the guys that are duck hunters … cus they’re gay and hell yes there is something wrong with being Gay …(I intend to offend) so don’t be Gay it’s not OK … ask God …

I used them field hunting mallards on The Eastern Shore of MD. Tried them 2 x on our creek blind there but pulled them both times.

Last year in Humboldt I got a great blind but the guys with the spinners pulled everything away. I jerk rigged it in the Sac Valley and did fine.

I'm slower this year and a lot less coordinated so I tried a Mojo Teal and had great luck for 4 weeks. After that they didn't seem to help or flared birds.

That's my take as a 1st year user out here.

Now days they are just like everything else. Sometimes they work Sometimes they don't.
Learn when to shut them off and when to turn them on your success will go up. I only leave them running when Teal or Wigs are working they love them things.
I wouldn't mind at all if they were outlawed not going to happen here tho.

I don't use one and shoot a lot of ducks without issue. I gave my spinner away at least 15 years ago, not because I care one way or another, but I didn't like carrying the darn thing.

Location, location, location = kill ducks. That is all there is to it. Don't over think it. Heck, if you're in a really good spot you barely have to hide and can blow a call like a kazoo and still be successful.

Close to where I hunt
I run all Kinds , very seldom do I need more than ONE ! Knowing when and where to place them comes with experience , along with a inviting spread .
It really comes down to reading birds with a greeting they want to hear , making them come take a look ! Not always do the birds need to see its actions
all the time and in the shadows could be better than , out in the open ! Playing the wind is just as important , setting up to finish birds or put them in the
right spot for a easier shot . There's so many other birds that are just as attracted to flash and a spinner can be of a benefit !

I haven’t used one since I moved out of Alaska in 2009. Still carry two jerk strings with me if I ever need some movement in the spread. But……..this is coming from a guy that fishes out of a $15,000 kayak complete with motor and forward facing sonar. LOL
