I've built my own and have a few as it took a couple prototypes to end up , with the tool !
Spinning speed and size makes a difference and colors and elevation is key , the same goes for where it's placed and if you can read birds ,
there's that prime opportunity to sweet talk them from unbelievable heights !
We built our first on 25 years ago out of a remote control car!!LOL
It worked great and we were too poor to buy the real deal!

150% With ya on the spinning wings .. Hate them things and I was just like you had one cus if you didn’t you weren’t shooting anything cus they worked that great when they first showed up … Took a few yrs for the smarter dux to figure them out and I am 100% sure that any idiot can set one out , not hide and shoot ducks cus I’ve seen it happen at Mendota … Maybe not nowadays but back then dux had never seen anything like it and it worked on every Duck .. far as I was concerned cus we shot limits really fast when nobody was even shooting dux … Still wish they’d outlawed them completely I hate the things for reasons listed by OP … cus like I say .. If you need one to help you kill dux , your no hunter just a shooter a wanna be … A true duck hunter .. instead of using a crutch like a spinning wing they build a good hide , set a spread , call and fool dux into gun range that’s called duck huntn …. ,
And if your like me and don’t care what others think , then by all means be that guy .. Run that Crutch so you can shoot ducks and post pics of them hollywoods … and really who cares what I think anyways … according to my Wife I am right a lot … The moral of the story here is .. You don’t need a Spinning wing decoy to shoot ducks .. if you do my advice is to become a dove hunter and leave the ducks to the guys that are duck hunters … cus they’re gay and hell yes there is something wrong with being Gay …(I intend to offend) so don’t be Gay it’s not OK … ask God …

Dumbest post of the year so far. You need help.

I run all Kinds , very seldom do I need more than ONE ! Knowing when and where to place them comes with experience , along with a inviting spread .
It really comes down to reading birds with a greeting they want to hear , making them come take a look ! Not always do the birds need to see its actions
all the time and in the shadows could be better than , out in the open ! Playing the wind is just as important , setting up to finish birds or put them in the
right spot for a easier shot . There's so many other birds that are just as attracted to flash and a spinner can be of a benefit !
You mean you actually have to learn how to use them effectively? :l

The first few years they came out they were deadly in the early season. But then they got banned till after 12/1 and they seemed to lose their effectiveness.

I had one but got rid of it once they started losing their effectiveness.

I hunted with a buddy who had two of them this year and the ducks seemed to ignore them.

A jerk string works wonders on flat calm days. A splasher works too.

Flickers seems to work on light wind days where the decoys are moving but not bouncing.

Windy with bouncing decoys is the best. No other motion decoys needed.

Yep the when and where is the secret , plus we have not found a time when they were not effective !
I do agree Geese don't care for them but in a location of your duck decoys , away from your goose decoys , you get the best of both hunts !
With as many as I have , there's never a stale time period they don't attract birds with good calling ! First you have to be where birds are !

I had a hell of a time decoding that version of ebonics. At first I thought it was da pain pillz, but after reading dat fer da 5th tyme I jus rolled with da rythum and it made cents. Know what I sayin cuz ?

Back to the subject, I haven't used them for about a decade. Do they help you kill birds, absolutely they do in the right setting, but I just got tired of messing with them. Charging the battery, losing pieces in the dark etc... said screw it and was perfectly happy maybe killing a few less birds than my neighbors. I do still use a wind duck on the higher wind days which seems to work as well. If you want to use them and it's legal I could give a dux fuzzy butt !

It's Still "We The People", right??
So what if you build a great hide, set an excellent spread, call well and accordingly.............AND use a spinner? Or three? Does every hunter that uses spinners build crappy hides, set horrible spreads and sound like a kazoo pro on the call? It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Bill's fritters you know.
