Geese hate them from what I have seen. If I am in a place where I think I have geese working I don't run one or we will run one with a remote. I prefer to not have one at all because even with a remote sometimes they stop white side up and the gig is up then.

I have found many times while hunting spots that you know birds are absolutely coming to no matter what are better off without a spinner. Places where they are coming to feed or are heavily imprinted. There you just want to be invisible so even running just regular decoys in some spots is a dead giveaway.
Oh I agree what you say but , I'm not going to just any spot to hunt , with a reasonable heads-up (scouting) I'm aware of what to expect !
I do take some sort of flash / movement within my gear and I'm not afraid to change things up some , depending on what the birds react to !
I do use a remote with my spinners as the stop and start is part of the attraction to the birds . Having a blade stop vertically works better for me .
Depending on the wind , the light side facing up-wind , allows birds to focus on the decoys and a landing spot . The shadow on the water is
the benefit of using a spinner and it usually only comes from one direction . Whether it's a vertical spinner or horizontal in the field makes
a difference , to me , and birds react accordingly !

I don't run them, don't like looking at them. When I hunted clubs and they first hit the scene of course I got one of Eberharts goal post units and benifitted. Never liked the 3 ring circus but had to keep up with the rest of the blinds or suffer watching birds pour into the other guy's carnival. I know it make marginal hunters more successful and to me that's a good way to retard growth and produce lazy hunters. Not saying that those who use them are lazy just pointing out a trend. I'm a diver guide and we are blessed with zero competition therefore not needing any added bells & whistles and I simply don't like looking at them. Would my hunts be more successful with them? Of course, but I like a View attachment 375061 View attachment 375064 View attachment 375065 View attachment 375062 View attachment 375063 simple traditional spread with a good hide or boat. So, who has decided not to run them and why?
thanks for sharing

I want to emphasise something about my choice of using a spinner , it's to each their own ! I would rather be able to suck them into the decoys
with whatever means it takes than , shoot a box of shells at birds beyond my ability just to see , if I can hit them ! I see it all the time , with fellas
that can't call or hide properly so , they blaze away with the chance of crippling a bird , that's lost to Real sportsmen ! One thing for sure is , either
you are on the X or not , having flash / movement at certain times can be a real asset ! Knowing What and When comes with experience and I go hunting to Be successful !
For those who choose not to use one , I'm glad for you , Thanks !

Well I am not going to go into detail on how I use spinners effectively but I will say there are certain spots that you can hardly get a look from a bird before Dec 1st and then after you have most of the birds coming in point blank for a few hunts. It is a dirty little trick when used the right way.

Thinking outside the box is key to having success with spinners. Folks have to learn to think from a ducks perspective and understand that the way they set up can have a profound effect on how the birds finish.

There are other kinds and styles that work year around , other than a blade or Mojo's ! Sometimes just the Subtle movement caused by the
mornings breeze can be effective ! There again there's other ways to make something flash against the water and birds pick that up instantly ,
especially with good calling ! The light of the day or shade and low raspy sweet talking , part of the time , gets it done ! I'm learning every
hunt as the birds will dictate what they want to hear or see ! It can be the smallest movement or flash that works best , with the right invite !

Oh good, this one again.

Let's do the plane on the treadmill tomorrow, and we can debate the 20-pound goose on Sunday.
Don’t forget loop theory and 25 shells and 107 day season and ….
