Going on first duck hunt and am I supposed to take my my better semi auto or my cheaper 870 Pump action? This is a salt water trip. I have a stoeger 2000 semi auto which is my go to gun and believe is for weathered conditions. And I have a 870 pump action which is my loaner when someone needs an extra gun. I take care of all my equipment but on a boat trip there will be uncontrollable vibration.

Take whichever one you are the most comfortable with.

    Both.
    - What happens when you need the extra gun, due to a malfunction?

Will I have to do a complete breakdown and clean gun after trip due to getting it wet in rain half the day and around salt water? Do you guys prefer a certain choke when duck hunting? I always leave a modified choke in mine.

If you shoot both well, take the cheaper gun. Give it a light coat of gun oil on all metal parts before you head out, and clean it completely when you get home. Salt water is tough on all equipment.

I take my over under on ever trip. Salt water hunting trips I clean it as soon as we get back to the hotel.

Take the gun into the shower with you after hunting the salt.
Run hot water through the whole gun, then dry and oil and you'll be good to go.

Blow dry it with your old ladies blow dryer then oil it .
    Not Kidding!!!

Where are you and what are you hunting and how wet is the gun going to get? Is the Stoeger black, blued or camo wrapped?

Just clean the gun with a warm wet rag and then oil after the hunt and you should be fine.
