I’ve reloaded rifle for years but have never done shotgun shells. Son inherited a bunch of shot from his in-laws. With the current situation on ammo and components if I come across powder what should I grab?

Looking to load some 12 gauge 00 buck. Nothing super fancy.

    Thanks

Powder availability is a problem; you need to match available components, hull, primer, over powder/under buckshot wad, slug design and weight then desired velocity and safe pressure. If I was going to load buckshot would search Ballistic Products web site as they seem to be the ideal source for loading buckshot as well as loading data.

As far as powder looked into it last month, some loads for Longshot powder and that seems to be easier powder to find these days.

Longshot, unique and universal are pretty well used powders. maybe not in slug and buck loads though.

What baltz said , and I'll add universal and unique.
You can cover a lot of different lead loads with unique and universal. The others are suited for magnum loads.

I use 700X in all my trap and skeet loads, just not sure about using it for buck shot.

I have always liked Alliant brand powders. Blue dot would probably do the trick for your buck shot.
