I have been watching geese in groups from 2-5. Repeatly dunking their heads while out in deep water. Anybody know why they do this?

probly going after insects in the water, the geese will be spending more and more time on the water this time of year and less in the fields, or they could just be washing off

They are simply checking out what each other has to offer right before mating season... seriously they are simply feeding on invertabrites, The invertabrites are full of the vitamins and minerals needed for breeding, nesting and hatching strong heathly chicks. They need a good source of protien to get the thru the incubation period, the hen lays the eggs then the male sits on them, he doesn't feed during this whole time. Colonduck is right about that they will spend alot more time in the water then on land. They are definitly paired up right now so won't be long until next years supper has hatched:D:D:D
