They cut my lights off this morning

Through my furniture out doors

I heard on the news this morning

Gonna come a raining snow

I go the pneumonia

My son has got the flue

My whole family got malnutrition

I so don't know what I'm gonna do

I cried angel of mercy

Mercy, would you look down on me yeah

I went down to my job

To try to get me some doe

My boss man told me this morining

Said we can't use you no more

I cried angel of mercy

Mercy would you look down on me yeah

Play on Robert Cray ;)

Well I used to wake the mornin', before the rooster crowed
Searchin' for soda bottles to get myself some dough
Run 'em down to the corner, down to the country sto'
Cash 'em in and give my money to a man named Curtis Lowe

Ol' Curt was a black man with white curly hair
When he had a fifth of wine, he did not have a care
He used to own an old DoBro, used to lay it 'cross his knee
I'd give ol' Curt my money, he'd play all day for me

*Play me a song Curtis Lowe, Curtis Lowe
I've got yo' drinkin' money, tune up yo' DoBro
He lived a lifetime, playin' the black man's blues
And on the day he lost his life, that's all he had to lose...*

Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Ballad of Curtis Lowe...(*Chorus as worded after second verse in song*)

***This was the last song my next door neighbor listened to on his home stereo, right before he left for his last night on the town. That night he lost his life, and that's all he had to lose. His name was Earl Ray. He was 17, and I was 13. He invited me to go with him and his friends that night, but I couldn't go. This one's for you Earl.***

Ballad of Curtis Lowe - Probably Lynard Skynard

Good toon.

Sorry about your friend.

:(

Day after day I'm more confused
So I look for the light in the pouring rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
I'm feelin' the strain, ain't it a shame

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

Beginning to think that I'm wasting time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
I'm counting on you to carry me through

And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feeling blue
The guitar's coming through to soothe me
Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You help me along, you're making me strong
I wanna get lost in the rock and rool an drift away.

Now I want to cry. Earl was an idiot, and a good guy all at the same time.:( Well, at least he's still remembered.

Well, Bro, its a sad fact that a lot of good guys are idiots. I haven't thought about my old crew, lately. It saddens me to think how few of the old gang is still around. Senseless, all but one, who fell to cancer.

A piece o' Led-

In the days of my youth, I was told what it means to be a man.
And now that I've reached that age I've tried to do all those things the best I can.
No matter how I try, I find my way doin' the same old jam.

Good times, bad times, you know I've had my share.
When my woman left home with a brown eyed man
And I still don't seem to care.

or-

Took my chances on a big jet plane.
Never let them tell you that they're all, all, all the same.

or

Brother bring me some silver.
Brother bring me some gold.
Brother would you ride all those many a miles
To keep me from the gallow's cold?

and

If it keeps on rainin', the levee's gonna break.
If it keeps on rainin', the levee's gonna break.
If the levee breaks, I'll have no place to stay.

cheer up!

The Mexican Blackbird

If you're down in Acuna, and you ain't up to bein' alone,
Don't spend all your money on just any honey, that's wrong!
Go find the Mexican Blackbird and send all your troubles back home.

They all call her "puta", cuz no one really knows her name.
She works the cantina. Dancin' and a-lovin's her trades.
Her momma was Meskin and her daddy was the Ace of Spades.

Let's drive that old Chrysler to Mexico, boys!
Say, keep your hands on the wheel, there!
Oh, it sure is fine!
Now you got it!
Hand me another one of them brews from back 'air!
Oh, this is gonna be so good!

She's hot as a pepper, but smooth as a Mexican brew.
So head for the border, and put in an order or two.
The wings of the Blackbird will spread like an eagle for you.

Oh, one more time!
Can ya' roll me another a them Bull Durhams, please?
Can ya do it one handed for me?

:nutz

Mallard Machete,
Sorry about your friend :( I know a few "good ole boys" that would do anything for you; but, nothing for themselves (that would made sense anyway).

Can't beat Curtis Lowe....Heck of a good song! It always gets 2 plays when it pops up on the CD :D
