Very dependent. Handle length and weight plays a big part. I also highly recommend the spiral rap rod. It reduces braid wrap on the tip while gigging.
cool. It is new to me... But I am so gun shy of all the special gear that is out now. Oh you want to throw that lure? NO your usual rod and reel wont do it... you need THIS!!! $400 later.

Love seeing fish pics and watching different styles. My style of slow jigging. Hold breath, dive down and hunt fish. This was the new world record ling for spearing in 2000. 35.6lbs. Had 10lbs of what was left of a big octo in his gut. Shoot em in the face!

So cool! I love spear fishing and free diving and haven’t done nearly enough of it the past couple of years.

Ever since abalone closed it is difficult to get motivated and put on the wetsuit and hunt. Maybe with salmon closed this year I will find the time.

We will be targeting Tuna with these rods when I return in October. Please circle back in the fall or come on up to Boardwalk Lodge for a trip of a life time. I just sent a handful of Soft Pitch rods to the lodge last week.

If you are on a budget, and targeting halibut, lings or rockfish, get an AbuGarcia 7500c3 (buy a used one made in Sweden) and an UglyStick Tiger Elite MH jigging rod, and spool it with 50# Tufline for about $200 to $250. Been using this or similar for 25 years without any issue here in AK. Now if you are targeting tuna, you might be pushing that rig beyond its limits.

Caught out of Homer. Used to be easy but charters are hitting them pretty hard these days. Still there, but have to go further, and have to have nice weather because the tides create some really nasty water at the entrance to Cook Inlet.
