I need a new VHF handheld marine radio. Would prefer it to be:
    • Waterproof or Submersible
    • Have 3-watt or stronger transmission power
    • Powered by alkaline batteries
    • Have weather bands
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I have a Cobra MR HH450 in the boat. I think it checks all of your boxes. Pretty sure it has 5 watts on high power. I don't really use it for much but test it out to make sure it's still working. Sometimes listen to the weather.

It's also a GMRS radio which is cool, but I don't use that either. Not sure how many handhelds do that.

They list some used ones there too, including a refurbished model for $80.

Look at Icom and Standard Horizon. They are regarded as the best in the marine world. I have a standard horizon with integrated GPS and DSC as backup to my mounted unit in my big boat. Works great and in an emergency (besides having EPIRB and DSC on fixed mount) can use the DSC function to call for help.

Have Standard hand held VHF, rechargeable, 20+ years old- still providing reliable service. Recommend this brand!

I have a Standard handheld I bought 20 years or so ago. I haven't used it since everyone got cell phones. I have no idea if it still works but pm me, if I can find the charger you can have it.
