Help me pick a call

At that time I knew nothing about calls (certainly not enough to want more hold or otherwise identify a specific characteristic), so the conversation we had was you explaining why I should choose a single-reed (and I’m quite grateful). At that point you suggested the Quackhead lineup.

That I don't doubt at all, only surprised that I wouldn't have specified the 1/4" bored Quackhead "Timber" (aka, Lord help us "Quackpipe") or similarly inexpensive and better than serviceable 1/4" bored Echo poly "Timber".

That New Old Style is a fun little 1/4" bored call. Hunted an acrylic one some for a season or two before a more versatile original version Microhen replaced it as my "quiet day call". While later on loan to another fellow wanting to try one, its cork tab was broken, and I told him not to sweat replacement, as it wasn't one I'd use again. But don'tcha know I eventually replaced it myself with one in hedge that I knew I'd never hunt, just because they're fun to run.

You may like a RM 410. It's what a Micro Hen should've been and more .

Can only comment on calls I’ve tried...and you’re not getting it new for the price you quoted...but a T1 Small Bore would be my choice for what you’re after.

Sounds like the .410 has built quite a following. Waiting for someone I know to own one so I can defile it.

Are you saying it will change tone depending on whether the reed is above or below the toneboard like the CWF I had did?

CWF doesnt neither does the .410 when you have good air. Your air....not so good. You and short barreled calls equal no good. So I'm saving you the time and money

Reverend Hall was my father, I'm just a guy with an interest in calling ducks who's been blessed with the opportunity to pursue it every open day since '84. Strictly a meat and potatoes, tactics over technique caller. But here's the shortest call I own:

Man , these calling forums have really have went to crap . I had thought they were , but spending more time at the calling section here lately now I know for certain .

You are right to some extent, but there is that .1% that care or a duck calling forum wouldn’t exist. I’m far from being a big fish in this pond and don’t belong to any clique...but there are some very accomplished callers here. Some have egos, some don’t...but regardless there’s a certain amount of work and talent that went into building those resumes. If people spew their opinions as fact there will always be those that disagree. If you don’t have the chops to back that opinion you may get called out. That’s just life. I know if I couldn’t figure something out on a duck or goose call I could ask on here and get genuine help from accomplished callers...whether it be contest or otherwise. Pretty amazing there are several world champions willing to do that. To me...that’s what makes this place great, but it’s also the internet and can be pretty entertaining. I came on here, pretended to be black, and argued about rap music like my life depended on it. Point is, without a soundfile or the likes you just never know who’s advice you’re taking.

Betty deserved to be called out last night or whenever I did. He was giving advice to people that he most likely, will never sound half as good, if he practiced everyday the rest of his life. I do hope he improves greatly, and puts me to shame. Wouldn't take much practice to do that, but I still wish him well with it.

I had forgotten that Rick and stump, had some issues in the past. If I had remembered that I wouldn't have brought it up. You can blame me for everything if it makes you feel better.

Nobody is the best they all had help and worked together on calling possibly in Malone's shed for all we know. Its a community. Some of these guys had help from people that are gone. GONE.
