Would really like to see interior Alaska while I’m still able to get around pretty well, ( still competent at driving and mobile enough to walk a reasonable distance ) 79 years old but doing o.k. We took a cruise a few yeas ago and I hated it , 3 ships in each harbor and thousands of idiots converging on small ports at the same time ! I’m just a middle class retired guy who sort of have to watch what I spend , love the outdoors but to conserve trip does not need to include any hunting or fishing. Any time between June and September, flying into Anchorage, 2 week stay with a rental car , my ideal trip would include about 3 days around Denali driving and seeing new things is what makes our trips ! I understand that Alaska is expensive but need to stay on the low end of motel or air b&b accommodations. Any and all ideas would be appreciated.

Homer is a great place in late June/early July.
Halibut galore and 23hrs of sunshine.
Safeway in town is fairly reasonable.
Im similar with $$, not rich by a long stretch.
Floatplane service right in town, why not fly over Denali?

In all seriousness, keep an eye out for moose, caribou and bison crossing the roads, pending where you drive.
Tok is at a crossroads between Anchorage and Fairbanks and has a little store, gas station etc. I always enjoyed the drive from Tok to Fairbanks (2 hrs).
Denali should be worth it.
Enjoy the trip.

Duck hunted near Anchorage in September 2002. Wow, over twenty years ago. A friend was stationed at a nearby Air force base. We had a great time. Saw one moose and one grizzly. Killed quite a few puddle ducks on mountain lakes and the tidal flats. It was definitely beautiful. The weather was great! I really hope to make it back someday!
