Indeed that is recognition of a fundamental truth. Sadly, we have a prominent political group which has chosen such an approach as their standard methodology for problem solving.

I see a fundamental problem with both parties.

Both think it is the Federal government's responsibility to fix everything in the World.

Not possible...let China do what they are going to do and face any backlash, if any, from the court of world opinion.

The sticking point is if and when it becomes in our best interest to do so. Isolationism works until it doesn't.

What you stated in a nutshell is the problem, our government specifically Congress doesn't solve problems to much anymore. The status quo is to try and see how much money and time they can spend letting a problem perpetuate instead of trying to solve it.
As for China, IMO they don't give a Rats Azz what the court of world opinion thinks, they are going to do what they feel like doing whether the rest of the world likes it or not. This isn't the first time there's been protesting in Hong Kong, from what I've read it's been going on since the Chinese took over and they never have cared what anybody has thought about it.

Back when i was active and we pulled into HK, they were in the middle of building the bridge... even then seeing the massiveness of that bridge it was very clear that sucker wasn't built for just cars. I don't remember the exact year, but it was near the time of turn-over and china was taking no chances... in my opinion.

In my own way back days, a visit to HK was R&R lasting about a week. Day one often involved a trip to a tailor for measurement and fitting, then a couple of days getting hammered before returning to the tailor for custom made clothes. I still have my custom tailored dress blues, but no way can I fit into them. :l

Glad to see he did this. Last time I checked yesterday, his response seemed rather ambiguous, and seemingly did not show any support for Hong Kong citizens...

IMO absolutely nothing is going to change in Hong Kong even though the people may want change. The Chinese are there to stay and that's that. Trump or anybody else in the world can complain about it all they want to, wake up a year from now Hong Kong will still be under Chinese Communist control.

I hate to see any freedom loving people lose that freedom, but all those preaching socialism should sit up and take notice. Freedom makes a difference in people's lives.
