Guy said 4-5 groups daily.. I definitely agree on Oudia’s ,best burger in Southern Illinois!!!!! But my favorite spots of all time are Sleepy’s and the Goose Pit....
The Goose Pit was many seasons past. Doyle and Peg Shipley were fine folks that owned it. Shot my first geese at the state hunt there in 1958. Lots of memories of Horseshoe. It was truly “The Goose Capitol of the World” during those times
Spent many a glorious day down there, between Horseshoe, Union County and Crab, from the late `50s to late 80s.
Lots of good times. Had the privilege to hunt with Greg Masterson at Horseshoe, Collin Cain at Ware, and Tim Grounds at Crab. Miss those days for sure
Where is Ware?
Ive done that and crab orchard and union County but not horseshoe. Snakeden hollow I skipped.
Best burger down in southern Illinois was from Fat Patty's in Carbondale. Just closed down for good this past year. Too bad! Rank it among the top 3 of all time.
What about that place that was on CBS ?
Got my first goose at the state hunting area in 1973, l was 14. My dad's birthday was New Years day. Hunted every New Years eve & day for my dads birth day for about 10 years. But breakfast first & some times lunch at the Goose Pit! Except the years qouta was out! Those were the days! Hunted a lot there 'n Ware. Miss the 'ol Von Dot too! Miss the geese also!
