How do we really make hunting and gun ownership sustainable?

The M.O. of the past thirty years is NOT sustainable and if we do not adapt to a different strategy, we will become extinct through attrition. Gun ownership is way up while hunting participation is way down. That did not happen by chance. And it isn't a good thing. The next thirty years we need to take a better approach...

Then come up with a different strategy. I've been hunting over 50 years....and in each of those years I have understood that hunting has NOTHING to do with my right to keep guns. It never will.

Firearm ownership is a Constitutional Right.
Hunting is a privilege.

You are born with certain inalienable rights, the Second Amendment is the bulwark to protecting those.
Hunting is a taught behavior and those that do not encourage and foster such to succeeding generations are in dereliction of duty.

Excellent! All of my kids hunt AND carry a firearm when they feel the need. It is my absolute belief that they will do the same with their children one day. I added 3 hunters to the rolls and 3 fervent 2nd Amendment protectionists. Teach your children well.

BS !!! armalite rifles the feared (AR) have been around for like 50 years. There were no school shootings… It’s a culture war you are in the middle of but muh….. Guns with lots of bullets are bad…. Wake up ! Please….. wait are you a Biden voter or just kinda cucky ???

When Military assault weapons started to be offered to the public , is when crap started hitting the fan ! These are not hunting guns , they're for killing
people , very few are converted for hunting purposes other than punching paper ! When these guns are put in the hands of , those who looking for power ,
the only out come is , mentally disturbed people fighting off the demons ! Our Liberal society's foolish control with Dos regulations , just goes to show
how out of context we really are , those with mental problems are ignored as we don't have time to address the issue . It seems to be getting worst and
until we as a society pay more attention to our "offspring" , to know what their thinking is , with some guidance , best be looking over your shoulder ?

I'm not bulging one bit on my right to own and bear firearms for whatever reason I want to. It's my God given right and it's Constitutional. I will not compromise on that.
Things I will support are:
Parents becoming real parents and taking responsibility for properly raising children.
Teachers quit indoctrinating our children with socialist propaganda.
The total overhaul of our university systems, getting rid of the liberal political staffs.
DA's quit letting criminals go, instead of making them pay for making bad decisions.
Get rid of the HIPPA laws so the ATF can find out who the loonies are before they are sold a gun.
Open the asylums back up for the mentally impaired. They need help.
Get control of social medias that negatively influences young minds.
And...
The list goes on and on for things we could do as a nation to help curb violence, and most would have comparatively little cost to the taxpayer. But anybody who thinks the far left liberal socialists will compromise on the above suggestions or on their efforts to take away guns is nuts.

Yes they are called mental institutions….

Yes, but are you willing to fund the programs that will actually help the mentally ill be safer, housing the homeless, making the inner city streets safer, etc. See, that’s where conservatives usually balk. Having guns doesn’t make you bulletproof, or even more safe, according to actual studies of the numbers involved. As an upland hunter and waterfowler, I’ve got several shotguns that are kept safe, and we have no kids. My record is as clean as anybody out there, after 40 years working in a university police department. We had the regional trauma center in our hospital in Sacramento. Mental health patients had to be medically cleared in our ER prior to being taken across the street to the county mental health center. Our ER got pretty “interesting” at times, to the point we had at least one police officer in ER at all times, in addition to two or three non-sworn security officers. Trust me, no politician out there has actually said they are willing to spend the money actually needed to significantly reduce violence in our community. Not one of even the most liberal of them. That said, the conservative approach seems to have shifted from “Law and order first; fund the police as much as they want,” to “Thr cops are out to get us, every man for himself.” That is never going to make things better, in my opinion.

First school mass shooting I recall was August 1, 1966. Guy used an M-1, Remington 700 ADL, and a Remington model 14. That’s 56 years ago and one military semi-auto, along with two sporting arms. So, yeah, it does go back that far.
