Union County has had multiple offers of volunteering and they have come up with every excuse in the book to deny them. I also find it interesting that Mermet was able to have a youth waterfowl draw with no permits being issued and Rend Lake is able to have a daily draw with no permits being issued. I have not been to Union this year but I would bet there are blinds that lack brush, pits that need to be installed, and blinds that lack water. I would also bet they have 4-5 people working at the site and once the draw is over they sit on their butts till noon doing nothing but at the most reading a book! It’s just a check.

There are certain things volunteers can and cannot do due to Union rules.
Covid, liability forms (hassles) etc also currently come into play.

As for Union county, I am unaware of what they have for duck season staff.
There is ALWAYS something that can be done (cleaning, rebuilding picnic tables, paperwork, etc) but exactly how much can be done at "o dark thirty "?

As for blinds not being brushed, I have 1st hand knowledge of coons and other critters, much less the hunters that occupy them, destroying brush (corn) off the blinds.
The trash the hunters leave in the blinds is not only upsetting but can be f'n gross.

I'm not making excuses, but the grass ain't always greener on the other side...

Maybe in seven years when I retire I will see it differently and will sit back and bitch and moan of what does and doesn't get done.

When I was young lad, just starting my first manual labor job, Dad gave me some outstanding advice. Those who have the time to complain about other peoples work, ain't ever done too much work themselves. Throughout my various jobs, both paid and volunteer, I've found this to be accurate 100% of the time.

Not a bad day if you got a good draw.
A little shooting from top few blinds in the draw the rest silent almost all shooting stoped after sunrise
    Draw was smooth no problems

I’ve always had a good time at union county, the guys working the check station were always helpful and nice. I think it’s a pretty nice setup down there. U guys want something to complain about come up to the north zone and see what we have. Hint: nothing.
