Caught and released a 13” kingfish in Manasquan Inlet on a plain hook Ava A-17 on the low tide this afternoon during thunderstorms. Also lost another small fish. One fish in 3.5 hours of casting an Ava and teaser rig is very slow fishing. Caught nothing in 3 of 5 trips to Manasquan Inlet this year. Saw two guys go into the ocean today. Water temp is still way too low for good fishing. Didn’t see anyone else catch a fish today. An osprey flew across the inlet with a bunker. A crow tried to steal the fish but failed. Shorebirds are migrating north.

The bass thing is on and no way am I burning 6 or 7 gallons of gas to try and catch one knowing I could. It's just not that big a deal.

Put about 7 miles on lake michigan for one lonely coho this past Saturday. Was a beautiful day on the water and I didn't get skunked so I can't complain too much. Spent the afternoon sunday catching some panfish with my little man. Was a good weekend.

Made a doubleheader today. Caught and released a white perch with a white 1/16 oz twister tail leadhead jig on 2 lb test line in the 68 degree Delaware River in Trenton, NJ, behind Arm and Hammer ballpark this afternoon during thunderstorms. Then caught, tagged and released a striped bass. Saw a lone fisherman downriver and 3 boats on the river. Dirty water was gushing from 3 storm drains. Went to flooded Veterans Park in Hamilton, NJ, this evening in the rain. Threw out a can of corn for chum, then caught nothing with a 1/32 oz twister tail leadhead jig on 2 lb test line and whole kernel canned corn on a #8 gold hook and 4 lb test line. Landed a 20 lb snapping turtle with my homemade corn meal bait on a #14 gold treble hook on 4 lb test line on my last cast of the day after a prolonged, epic battle. Then caught and released 8 bluegills, a pumpkinseed sunfish and a bluegill x pumpkinseed hybrid on the treble hook with no bait.

Wow....a kingfish on an ava!! That's crazy!

Nice weekie too! Thank you for releasing it!!!

I didn't make it to the 'squan this spring but my buddy has a place on the canal and said it never really got great. I stayed in DE and the blues hit the bay flats for about 5 tide cycles. Biggest measured 25", 27" and 28" but fairly skinny. What a blast watching them tail a popper in 3' of water and finally taking it 30' from the sand.

Went out yesterday with a buddy of mine who I’ve duck and goose hunted with quite a few times, but can’t think of a time where I’ve ever fished with him. Took the boys out on a bigger lake here in Illinois. Crappie spawn is about over there, but we still managed to clean about forty or so and a handful of whites. @bullpinnie, recognize this feller?
