Took the boys out yesterday for a few hours. Crappie bass and bluegill. I had the crappie of my life hooked and lost him at the edge of the kayak as soon as I touched him with my hand. He dove down and snapped my four pound test. My jig was buried deep down the back of his throat. My oldest hooked a 17”er in this pond last year, and I’d be surprised if this one wasn’t right there with it. Enough to make a grown man cry. :(

Went carping in flooded, muddy 56 degrees Carnegie Lake this evening in the cold rain during a small craft advisory sou’easter and flood warning. Looked like little China when I arrived. Nobody was there when I left. Didn’t bring my 2 lb test ultralight jigging outfit because of the muddy flood. Threw out a can of ShopRite extra crispy whole kernel corn, then had a good bite on my 4 lb test outfit. After I yanked and reeled in my line, two hooks were missing. I stopped fishing with two rods. On my last cast of the day with my 12 lb test outfit, I hooked something that acted like a snapping turtle. It made bubbles and didn’t fight. I reeled in halfway to shore between two candock fields before it started acting like a fish and made a run to my right. It swam into the candocks where two fish broke my 4 lb test line last week. I got lucky and by giving slack then applying maximum pressure was able to pull the fish out of the snags. Finally landed my biggest fish for this year, a 17.5 lb gravid female common carp. Gave her to Wendy’s again.

Haven't been but a couple times this year, wind always seems to be blowing a gale. Yesterday was nice so went for a few hours in the morning. Caught 3 bass, 3 bluegills, 2 jacks, and a white perch. This fat jack was 19" and ate a chigger craw I was flipping to cypress trees trying to catch bass. He almost got introduced to the hot grease but I wasn't in the mood to clean fish so he lived to ambush prey another day.

Did some bluegill fishing over the weekend. Caught grass shrimp for bait and used in the neighborhood pond. Probably caught 30 fish with a mix of gills, redear, bass, and Mayans. Kept 8 with a 9" redear as the biggest for lunch. cut his gut open after to see what was there. Interesting shells he ate.

Took my wife and boys out this afternoon after I got off and they got home from school. Got a lot later jump than I had hoped for, didn’t get on til about 545. But still had a decent night. Everyone caught some fish and cleaned enough for a good supper. Crappie, a couple white bass, and a couple walleye. Saw my mentor buddy up there as well. He was kind enough to snap a picture of us in the new boat as he trolled past

Love it. Zips right through em. Bought it last fall after trying to clean I dunno how many white bass with my old standard rapala filet knife. Buddy I fish with has two of them cordless bubbas. He was crankin em out. I bet we had over 100 of em one day. So I broke down and bought this in prolly November. Bought my father in law one for Christmas and we cleaned 51 crappie a few weeks ago, and between the two of us it took about 35 minutes to set up our tables, clean em and get everything done and cleaned up and put away
