The storms are "planting" over an area and not moving. Feast or famine.
Anticipation is often more fun than the hunts themselves. Well not quite ... but close
One extreme to another
Insane weather, a massive storm has literally not moved all day.
Amazing. In SE Sodak I believe the drakes are still chasing hens.
Now send some to central SD. We have had less than 4" of total precipitation in the last 6 months at my place near Pierre, SD
Has killed every everything in the wake in Montana don’t need what we got
That’s a cattail patch you couldn’t see over 4 days ago.
Drove across northern ND including trips close to the Canadian border than came back through the middle of the state.
Are there potholes in ND? Yes there are. I suspect these are the ones that were there in 1988. Some large sloughs (aka lakes) look fairly good, others already have 20+ yards of mud. Sloughs closer to roads are doing better because the run off from roads and ditches.
Ducks are there in most sloughs with water.
Despite the rain in many places (ground can suck up 2" over night) the regions we crossed are mostly very desperate. Many farmers are in trouble ... crops are barely emerging, dust bowl conditions, essentially all cattail sloughs are still tan/brown. Corn fields appear especially hard hit.
To be honest most areas looked like it was September after an exceptionally hot and dry August. Even saw one large feed in a field today.
