Hey guys, I just got the plans for the hybrid layout (thanks MissedAgain) and I'm thinking I'm gonna go ahead and build one in the next few months. They look like pretty cool little boats and it will be the first boat that I build so I figure its a good one to learn with. I've seen some pics of these on various threads but figured I'd ask if anyone wants to go ahead and post pics of theirs here so I can get some different ideas for when I'm building mine. Thanks.
We built one at work the other night, me and some co-workers. Full size out of cardboard, it went together in a snap. 45 minutes from start to finish, we put it together with duct tape and it looked sweet. I wish I would have taken some pictures of it before we crushed it. I am starting mine this coming weekend as well. The thing that surprised me was the simplicity and the strength, even out of cardboard. We sealed all the seams with tape and I would have been willing to give it a go if we were near shallow water.
Those are pretty awesome lookin' boats - I can't decide if I want to do the pointed nose or the john boat style. I'm leaning towards the john boat style so the dog has more room.
I prefer the pram or square bow version over the pointy version - it seems like there is a lot more to the boat. Here are a few of both:
anyone got building plans or know were to get the building plans? i think im gonna make one during the off season
Send me a PM/IM WITH YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS and I will send you the plans. Its that simple. 8 ft long, 44 inches wide, 60 to 65 pounds. You can make it lighter with lighter weight materials. You can also modify the design - just build a couple scaled cardboard versions and see if your idea works. Most guys want a longer boat - simple, get 10 ft plywood or scarf some together and run with it. Personally, I use the lightest 1/4 (or 1/8 if you can get it) inch plywood available (Luan or Okume) since I fiberglass them inside & out. The fiberglassing is the hard part.
